Starting with the 2026 admissions cycle, The Ohio State University will once again require SAT or ACT scores for first-year applicants to its Columbus campus. This marks the end of the test-optional policy implemented in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
University officials cited data indicating that students who submitted standardized test scores tended to have higher GPAs and were more likely to progress through their academic programs successfully. While test scores will be a required component, Ohio State emphasizes that admissions decisions will continue to be based on a holistic review of each applicant.
To alleviate pressure on applicants, Ohio State will implement “superscoring,” allowing students to combine their highest section scores from multiple test attempts to create the best overall score.
